Bristol Stool Chart

It’s a fact!

The Bristol Stool Chart classifies faeces into seven types. It was developed at the University of Bristol, England, and first published in the Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology in 1997.

The form of the stool depends on the time it spends in the colon.

Did you know...?

Types 1 and 2 indicate constipation.

Types 57 tend towards diarrhoea.

The ideal stools are Types 3 and 4, especially Type 4.
